What to Expect When Accessing Therapy at Summit Counselling Services
Starting therapy can feel daunting—especially if you’re already navigating anxiety or uncertainty. At Summit, we want to make your first steps feel clear, welcoming, and low-stress. Here's everything you need to know about what to expect—so you won’t be left wondering if you’re in the right place, or whether those snacks are for you (spoiler: they are).
1. Choosing the Right Therapist
If you already know the topic you’d like to explore or the type of therapy you’re interested in, hover over the “Specialties” or “Modalities” menus on our website to explore your options.
Once you select an area, scroll down to see the clinicians who specialize in that focus.
Click on a therapist’s photo to head to their booking page—be sure to check their location to match your preference.
Tip: On their booking page, you can click “Read More” for a short bio to help you get a feel for who they are. You can also find their full bio’s on our ‘match with a therapist’ page.
Need more guidance? Click “Match with a Therapist” to see our full list of clinicians and browse their profiles.
Still unsure? No problem. Use button on the bottom of this page or click “Contact” in our main menu—and one of our admin team members will help you find a good fit.
A quick insurance note: All our psychologists are licensed with the College of Alberta Psychologists. If you’re hoping to use insurance, we recommend confirming whether your plan covers provisionally registered clinicians, if that’s relevant to your chosen therapist.
2. Booking a Session Online
Once you’ve selected a therapist, you’ll land on their personal booking page.
Choose your session type on the left-hand side.
Want to chat first? Many therapists offer a free 10-minute phone consult so you can see if it’s a good match before booking a full session.
For in-person sessions, double-check the location listed at the top or bottom of the page.
Browse the therapist’s availability and pick a time that works for you. If the option says “contact to book,” just call us at 780-217-4665 or email info@summitcs.ca.
After selecting your time, you’ll be prompted to create a profile and add a payment method. Don’t worry—your insurance info can be added later when you complete your intake form.
Booking for your child? Be sure to book under their name.
And don’t forget to complete any intake or consent forms sent to your email before your session!
3. Attending Your In-Office Session
St. Albert – #203, 1 Tache St, St. Albert, AB
Free 2-hour visitor parking is available on either side of Grandin Plaza.
Register your license plate by scanning the QR code on the banner near the elevators.
If you miss it, there’s another QR code on the front desk inside our office.
Take the elevator to the 2nd floor—we’re the first door on the left.
In winter, please remove your shoes. You’re welcome to bring slippers or borrow a pair from the front closet.
If a Client Care Coordinator is present, they’ll greet you and notify your clinician.
If not, help yourself to a snack or beverage, have a seat, and your therapist will be out to meet you.
Brewery District – 10328 121 St NW, Edmonton, AB
Allow a little extra time to find parking—street parking is often available nearby.
If needed, there’s a lot one block north in the Brewery District/Oliver Square. Please note that this lot is monitored and intended for patrons of nearby businesses, so grabbing a coffee or snack may be a good idea if you choose to park there.
Enter through the front door (yes, it used to be a house!).
In winter, please remove your shoes and take a seat in the front lobby.
This location is not wheelchair accessible and typically does not have a Client Care Coordinator onsite—but your therapist will greet you at your scheduled session time.
4. After Your Session
If you've added insurance information to your profile or connected with our admin team, we’ll submit your claim directly when possible.
Any remaining balance or out-of-pocket payment will be charged to the card on file, and your receipt will be emailed to you automatically.
Want to use a different payment method? Just let your therapist or our front desk know.
