A Note From Elena

About Me:
I am a Registered Psychologist, holding a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor’s Degree in Honours Psychology from MacEwan University.

In my practice, I aim to create a space where all stories, identities, belief systems, and bodies are welcomed—whether you’re LGBTQIA2S+, neurodivergent, spiritually curious, in a non-traditional relationship, part of the kink or BDSM community, or still figuring it all out.

My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and deeply attuned. I draw primarily from Emotionally-Focused Therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy, which means I focus on healing through connecting with emotions, building self-kindness, and creating more fulfilling relationships—both with others and with yourself. To tailor our work to your specific needs and goals, I also integrate techniques from a variety of other evidence-based modalities. Some of the notable areas I hold additional specialty training/experience in are sex therapy, couples therapy, and creative, expressive modalities like play, sand tray, and art therapy—especially helpful for children and anyone who prefers non-verbal or creative ways of working through tough stuff.

I work especially well with individuals who value depth, insight, and/or a holistic lens on healing—whether that includes exploring emotional patterns, relational dynamics, sexuality, identity, or deeper existential and spiritual themes. As such, I deeply value working with folks who may not have felt fully at home in more conventional spaces, including those who are highly sensitive or empathetic, seeking to connect science and soul, and/or are deeply open and reflective.

Favourite Quote:
“Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it's having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it's our greatest measure of courage.” - Brene Brown

Outside Work:
Outside the therapy room, I spend most of my time with my spouse, my dog and cat, and snacking on a small mountain of plant-based foods. Having previously volunteered in an animal shelter for several years and caring for many pets of my own growing up, I’ve always had a deep love for animals. They continue to remain a big part of my life, including how I stay grounded and connected.

I also find joy in all things cozy, nerdy, and a little magical—books, Dungeons & Dragons, plants, art projects, and video games with rich storylines or fantastical worlds. I’m a big believer in imagination, self-expression, and creating a life that doesn’t necessarily follow the “default settings.”
